The street, roughly 580 meters in length, is a covered arcade, providing shelter to visitors as they shop. Despite enduring events like the Great Tenpo Fire and the World War II bombings, Shinsaibashisuji has maintained its significance in Osaka’s history.

The Shinsaibashisuji area is composed of three distinct shopping zones. The main arcade offers a selection of luxury goods and fashionable boutiques. To the north, a shorter section of the street presents a collection of local shops, whereas the southern part, known as Senba Shinsaibashisuji, is geared towards daily necessities and features grocery stores and small dining establishments. This section is especially popular for its trendy offerings and souvenirs.

Beyond shopping, the arcade is a place to savor Osaka’s culinary traditions, with local favorites like takoyaki and okonomiyaki available to visitors. The Shinsaibashi area got its name from a bridge constructed in 1622 by a merchant named Shinsai Okada.
