About Kamigata Ukiyoe Museum

Kamigata Ukiyo-e, meaning “pictures of the floating world from the upper region,” originated in the Kamigata area, which encompasses Osaka and Kyoto, from the 17th to the 19th centuries. Unlike the Ukiyo-e of Edo (Tokyo), Kamigata Ukiyo-e typically featured realistic portrayals of Kabuki actors.

The museum houses a significant collection, including works by master artists such as Toyokuni, Kunisada, Hiroshige, Kuniyoshi, and Kitagawa Utamaro.
